10 young Aucklanders share their journey through paid work experience in the construction and infrastructure industry.

AWF, Fletcher Building, Hawkins and Downer teamed up with training providers and Auckland Tourism Events and Economic Development (ATEED) on the #BuildAKL social media campaign to raise awareness of the number and diversity of roles within the construction and infrastructure industry.

The campaign launched with a competition to select 20 candidates to participate in training for qualifications. The top 10 candidates went on to receive a four week rotation of paid work experience.

The winners are documenting their journeys on social media using the hashtag #BuildAKL.

The campaign will run over a year, with the aim to get more young people involved with construction trades roles, and to break down the perceived barriers of getting a role within the industry.

ATEED General Manager for Business, Innovation and Skills, Patrick McVeigh said the campaign aimed to recruit 4,000 young people.
